Who it's for

Teenagers and young people across Nerang and the surrounding Gold Coast – whether you’re due for a vaccination, want to talk about how you’ve been feeling, have a question about your body or relationships, or there’s something on your mind you’d like to discuss privately. You’re welcome to bring a parent or carer, or to come on your own.

Our adolescent health services

Mental health and wellbeing:
Our GPs can help with low mood, anxiety, stress and other emotional concerns – listening, assessing what’s going on, and discussing the support available. Where helpful, we can put a Mental Health Treatment Plan in place and refer to a psychologist. (See [Mental Health].)

Eating concerns:
If you’re worried about eating, body image or your relationship with food, our GPs offer a supportive, confidential first step. We assess, provide guidance, and coordinate care with dietitians, psychologists or specialists where appropriate. Support is also available through the Butterfly Foundation (1800 33 4673).

Alcohol and other drugs:
Confidential, non-judgemental advice and support for young people who have questions or concerns about alcohol or other drugs, and help to make safer, healthier choices.

Sexual health, contraception and pregnancy:
Non-judgemental, confidential advice on contraception, menstrual health, sexual health and pregnancy, with testing and referral where needed. (See [Sexual Health] and [Women’s Health].)

HPV vaccination:
The HPV vaccination helps protect against the human papillomavirus (HPV), which can cause cervical and some other cancers. It’s free under the National Immunisation Program for eligible adolescents (usually offered around ages 12–13, with catch-up available). (See [Immunisation].)

What to expect

Appointments are private and confidential. Teenagers are welcome to attend with a parent or carer, or on their own – and a GP will explain how confidentiality works in a way that suits the situation. If there’s a particular topic you’d like to talk about, it can help to book a longer appointment so there’s enough time, and you’re welcome to raise anything, big or small.

If you need urgent help: in an emergency, call 000.
For free, confidential support any time, you can call Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800 or Lifeline on 13 11 14.
