Sexual health is a normal, important part of your overall health – and nothing to feel embarrassed about. At Nerang Medical Centre & Skin Clinic, our GPs provide confidential sexual health checks, STI testing and treatment, and contraception and prevention advice, for people of all ages and genders. Regular testing is the best way to pick up infections early, including when you have no symptoms. We’re open 7 days a week, with walk-ins welcome.

Anyone who wants a sexual health check, has a concern or symptom, is starting a new relationship, or simply wants peace of mind. You don’t need symptoms to get tested – many people have a check as part of looking after their health.
Our sexual health services
STI testing:
We can test for common sexually transmitted infections, including chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, HIV, hepatitis and genital herpes. Depending on what’s needed, testing may involve a urine sample, a swab or a blood test – your doctor will explain what’s right for you.
STI treatment:
If a test comes back positive, our GPs provide treatment and follow-up, and can support you with confidential advice about telling current or past partners so they can be tested too.
Contraception and prevention:

Vaccination:
Some infections can be prevented with vaccination, such as HPV and hepatitis B. Talk to your GP about what’s recommended for you. (See [Immunisation].)

What to expect
Your appointment is private and confidential. There’s no need to feel awkward – our GPs have these conversations every day. Some infections take time to show up after exposure (a “window period”), so your doctor will advise on the right timing and whether a repeat test is needed. We’ll explain how and when you’ll get your results, and what the next steps are if anything needs treatment. If you’d prefer a female or male doctor, let our reception team know when you book.
Fees & Medicare
Bulk billing is available for eligible Medicare patients with participating doctors. Many sexual health consultations and STI tests are covered by Medicare for eligible patients; some tests may involve an out-of-pocket cost.
