Commercial Driver's Licence Medicals in Nerang, Gold Coast
Nerang Medical Centre & Skin Clinic provides Commercial Driver’s Licence medicals – also known as Fitness to Drive assessments – for professional and heavy-vehicle drivers across Nerang and the Gold Coast. Our GPs assess your fitness to drive against the national medical standard (Austroads’ Assessing Fitness to Drive), so you can meet your licensing requirements. We’re open 7 days a week, with early weekday appointments from 7:30am – handy for getting it done before a shift.
Who needs a commercial driver medical?
Commercial and heavy-vehicle drivers must meet higher medical standards because of the demands of the job – long hours, fatigue, and the consequences of an incident. You may need a Fitness to Drive medical if you:
- drive (or are applying to drive) a heavy or commercial vehicle – MR, HR, HC or MC licence classes
- drive a bus or other public-passenger vehicle
- transport dangerous goods
- have been asked by your employer or the licensing authority to have a medical, or are due for a periodic review.
We also provide other medical assessments, such as pre-employment medicals ask our reception team.
Anyone who wants a sexual health check, has a concern or symptom, is starting a new relationship, or simply wants peace of mind. You don’t need symptoms to get tested – many people have a check as part of looking after their health.
What the assessment involves
Our GPs conduct a thorough Fitness to Drive assessment in line with the national standard, which typically includes:
- a review of your medical history and a health questionnaire
- an eyesight (vision) test
- a blood pressure check
- a general examination and a urine test
- any other checks relevant to your health and the standard.
After the assessment, your GP completes the medical certificate/form for your licence class. In some cases, further information or a review may be needed before the form can be finalised.
What to bring
- any medical assessment form provided by your employer or the licensing authority
- your glasses or contact lenses, if you wear them
- a list of your current medications
- any relevant specialist letters or recent test results
- photo ID.

Fees
Commercial driver medicals are not covered by Medicare, as they’re assessments for licensing or employment rather than for treating an illness. A private fee applies, and it’s often paid by you or your employer. Please ask our reception team for the current fee when you book, so there are no surprises on the day.
